An experience of baseline English Test
Working in developing baseline English test for 3rd to 8th std at Regional Academic Authority ,Aurangabad is an insightful experience for me.
I have been included in core team.and it is also prestigious thing for me.We completed first workshop during 29th may to 2nd June 2017 and again from 7th june to 12th June 2017.This workshops are being conducted under the leadership of Dr Subhash kambale (Dir. RAA) and Dr Ujjwal karwande (Sr.Lec and Hod of English department). This test will be brought into practice in the entire Maharashtra's government schools .So we ensured that this test should be innovative, influential and basic one. It should justify the assessment of baseline skills of English language of learners of pan Maharashtra. However, it's very challenging task ,but our core team and support team worked thouroghly and energetically.
At the beginning of the first workshop we, core team members went through the whole objectives of English language prescribed in curriculam 2012 . We discussed on the skillwise objectives and sorted out basic skillbased objectives that will be assessed through test. We all ensured the principle of simplicity, thinking of tribal, rural, slum, civic and non-civic areas of Maharashtra. We also thought English as a third language ,foreign language which is very difficult for students in Maharashtra . As per the various views we framed blueprint and weightage . We also preffered all the English textbooks from 1st to 7th std.
After coming to conclusion of the objectives we displayed that data in front of the support team where we all interacted over the selection of objectives. We made groups and worked on wightage table and blueprint of 3rd to 8th std. Again we discussed on it and made some changes according to suggetions.
After the finalisation of blueprint ,teachers were divided into groups and gave them a task of framing test items and instructions for teachers . All the participants who were being called from different district gave their valuable input . They brainstormed over the test items and prepared 3 sets of question papers as well as sets of instruction for teachers .On the last 2 days everyone was engaged in making question bank.
When the dates of baseline test will be declared , we will support all the teachers working from 3rd to 8th std in government or non government schools of maharashtra by providing model question bank . So that they can practise and prepare their students for the baseline English test.
Really insightful experience.
Thanks to RAA ,Aurangabad for giving this opportunity.
